These cheaper parts that bring the overall cost down typically need more maintenance. That’s not to say they are bad at all, but some of the components are built to less than perfect specifications, and some problems exist here and there, but for the most part they are great and work fine. Rad bikes are arguably on the lower end of the price point for modern ebikes. Some shops will choose to specialize in ebikes, other shops will refuse to work on them altogether. Until these bikes become more popular and more standardized, this will always be the case. If that happens, the shop is on the hook for repairing the parts as well as the time lost. Also just taking the rear wheel off of a hub-motor ebike can be much more time consuming than that of a standard bicycle, and proper procedures must be followed to not confuse the electronics, or possibly short out the battery. This adds extra time involved in their day, and can be confusing with so many different types of motors, controllers, displays etc. Add the electronics to the mix and then that shop must also be aware of the functions of each cable, light, etc. The standard bicycle parts on the rad bikes (crank sets, gears, chains, brakes etc) are serviceable by any shop. However there is a liability the shop is undertaking by working on any ebike, as with the additional electrical components, it can add additional labor in assessing and diagnosing issues. It’s not necessarily about the build quality of the bike or components. This can be the case, but the reasons for not accepting to take in the bikes for repair might surprise you.
